Under 10's Match Report v’s Leamington RFC

Daventry travelled to Leamington today to play two matches with a near full strength squad.

The Daventry players were focused and committed from the start today. Competition for places in the Raiders team is strong. The opening moments were very competitive and both teams eager to run with the ball. Daventry got their rucking game going and produced some quick ball, this was moved wide through the backs to exploit the spaces out wide. There was some fine tackling today from Kibb, Rhys, Dawson and Angus. The forwards competed well in the scrum and lineout securing all their own ball providing scrum half William a steady supply of quality ball. Leamington ran hard at Daventry opting for the off loading game which they executed well. The Daventry rucking was a master class in the second half with all players involved. Daventry worked hard  but could not level the match in the second half. Leamington finally running out winners 15 – 10. This was one of the best performances of the season for the team and there were many individual performances of note. Sam S was outstanding in the centre for his catch and give pass and some fine defensive tackles. Elliott was again powerful upfront, Dawson at fly half passed good ball and ran the slow ball himself. The Daventry points were scored by Kieran and Rhys.

The Gladiators than took to the field keen to show that they too could play quality rugby. The developing players of Alex, Jordan and Robert showed from the start in their aggressive tackling and support play. Robert R playing at prop made some fine tackles and was the first to the breakdown. Daventry rucked Leamington off the ball time and time again. This enabled William time on the ball and the attacking players to run from depth with pace. At half time Daventry had opened up a 0 -15 lead. The second half got better as Daventry became dominant and the game opened up. Daventry were running ball from their own try line to score. The try of the match came when Daventry ran from their own line moving the ball through the backs, the winger was tackled a quick ruck was formed and the ball moved wide again for Rhys to go in the corner.

This was the performance we had all been waiting for as the players believed in themselves and worked as a team to achieve a fine win.

Players catching the eye were Robert R, and Alex for their tackling, Jordan for his positional play and pace on the wing. Hooker Sam C started to find his form of old today making some strong tackles and adding power to the scrum, keep working hard Sam it will come.

Daventry eventually ran out victors 10 – 25. The scorers were Kieran 2, Wills 2, Rhys 1, Alex 1.

Today’s Coaches award went to Robert R for his magnificent performance for the Gladiators well done Robert.

The Player of the Day was awarded to Kieran who delivered his best performance of the season and his support play was first class. It was good to see Kieran finding his old form once again. Congratulations Kieran.

Today’s performances were down to the hard work of the players, many are now training twice a week and their fitness levels are increasing along with their understanding of the game.

Don't Forget!

Next week training is 6.00pm Friday and then on Sunday we travel to Leighton Buzzard, meet 09.00 depart 9.15 sharp.
