Mobbs Tournament
Today we
travelled to Brackley to take part in the Mobbs tournament; we were drawn in a
pool with Old Scouts, Old Northamptonians, Kettering and Towcester. A very
strong pool.
Our first
game was against Tows and we started off sleepy allowing Tows early scores
through poor tackling. When we did wake up and started to play we look dangerous
and played some great rugby. Players catching the eye were William, Angus,
Elliott and Joe for his strong tackling.
The
second match Daventry were up for the challenge and we played Kettering. The
tackling improved and we played some great rugby with the score at half time 3 –
4. Some fine running from Kieran and Angus making good scores. William sniped
and probed around the fringes putting pressure on their scrum half creating
turnover ball. Joe drove and tackled well. The second half saw Jordan take to
the field and play on the wing. Jordan tackled his heart out making numerous try
saving tackles. This pleased the coaches as we had not seen this commitment from
Jordan before today. Kettering eventually running out winners of thrilling
match. Players showing well were William, Angus, Kieran and Jordan.
The third
match we played Old Scouts and who were very strong especially in the centre.
Daventry played with true grit, leading this charge was William who raised his
game and challenged for everything making some fine tackles. Angus tackled
strongly along with Kibb who showed well in the close quarters. Sam C played
well in this game at hooker. Scouts running out winners 6 – 1.
Our last
matched we took on ON’s “A” and the rugby played by both sides was magnificent.
ON’s played with width and pace stretching Daventry at every opportunity.
Daventry tackled their hearts out. William continually robbed their scrum half
of ball and set up driving mauls gaining good yards. This was a terrific match
and all the players were clapped off by the large supporting crowd. Players of
note were Sam S, William, Kieran, Robert, Rhys supported by the rest of the
squad.
A great
day’s rugby and I am sure the players will learn from the experience as the
season progresses.
The
coaches award went to Jordan who gave a master class in tackling and is now
pushing for a starting position in the raiders. Congratulations Jordan.
The
player of the day went to William, who never gave up, sniped and probed and put
in some great tackles, and led the way for the team. Congratulations William
keep it up.
