Under 10’s V’s
Rushden
Today we travelled away and
received a warm welcome from Rushden, however the wind had a very cold bite to
it making for some very cold supporters and players..
The Raiders took on Rushden
“a” and from the start struggled as we failed to put the tackles in. Rushden
opened up a 30 – 0 lead before Daventry awoke. From a driving scrum, William
broke up the blind side drawing the winger in before a great off load to Angus
who raced over in the corner.
Daventry then made
substitutions and the new look front row of Elliott, Thomas and Robert won every
scrum and the supply of ball for the Daventry backs became more consistant. It
was only strong defence from Rushden that kept the Raiders from scoring.
Players who impressed today
were Thomas, William, Elliott, Angus and Alex in the centre.
The Gladiators then took to
the pitch to play Rushden “b”, supported by a couple of Raiders players.
This was a much more even
game and Daventry produced some fine rucking rugby. Thomas ran strong driving
through the heart of the Rushden defence time and time again. Seb on the wing
tackled well and supported with commitment.
Again the players catching
the eye were Robert for his hunting of the ball and driving at rucks and mauls.
William for his stealing of ball in mauls and tireless running, Dawson for his
solid tackling and support play.
The third match saw all
players have game time and there were some great pieces of rugby from
individuals. William playing at centre and flyhalf showed vision and excellent
distribution skills rounding off a great day with a poachers try when he scooped
up lose ball at ruck and ran 20 yards to score. Dawson for a 60 metre touchline
run to score in the corner, leaving a trail of players in his wake. The forwards
of Thomas, Elliott and Robert were outstanding in ruck and scrum.
Today we awarded the Friday
training most improved player medal and that went to Alex, well done.
The coaches award went to
Dawson for his great tackling.
The player of the day went to
Thomas for his great driving game.
William, Elliott, Robert,
Gus were all in the running today for an award as they all put in strong
performances.
Please all parents ensure
that their children attend matches in warm clothing and many layers as the
enjoyment for some players was dampened as they we so cold.
