Under 10’s V’s
Harbury
Daventry under 10’s were back
in action today, we entertained Harbury and Bugbrooke.
The first match the Raider’s
took on a strong Harbury side and started from the kick off. A slow start by
Daventry allowed Harbury to open the scoring, before hitting back with some fine
rucking and running rugby. The break came when Kieran sprinted through touching
down in the corner, following quick ruck ball from Joe and Thomas. Daventry
continued to celebrate after the restart and were caught off guard by the strong
direct running of the Harbury prop who powered through to score despite brave
tackles from Angus and Rhys.
Daventry responded well and
played a controlled patient game moving the ball wide and rucking before 6th
phase ball moved accurately and swiftly by scrum half William, to Kieran, Dawson
finally putting Angus away in the corner, who dived in true Ben Cohen style.
The second half proved
equally good with both sides scoring and the match ending in a 15 – 15 draw.
Players making a big impact
were Thomas, Rhys, William and Sam S for some fine brave tackles.
The second match the
Gladiators took on a strong Bugbrooke “A” side and quickly found themselves
behind to several scores. However this seemed to gel the team and they played
with great determination and character and battled away. Jordan began running
strongly and creating opportunities for support runners. Thomas galloped around
the pitch with Bugbrooke unable to control his strength and power. Robert
tackled his heart out and chased the ball continually finally having the highest
tackle count for the day. Alex distributed the ball well at scrum half to the
back line. Seb on the right wing delivered his best performance of the season,
and Elliott started to find his pre-Christmas form once again. The final score
was 10 – 35 to Bugbrooke.
All the players showed well
today and it was clear to the large crowd that their commitment to training is
paying off as the skill levels was high.
Todays coach’s award went to
Robert who said”i never touched the ball all game” but his contribution to the
team was massive. His strong tackling and pursuit of the ball and never give up
attitude was fantastic, congratulations Robert.
The player of the day went to
one of our smallest players who put in three of the biggest tackles on Harbury’s
big prop, and that was Angus “The flyer”. Angus rounded off a strong performance
with his great try and had a magnificent attitude today.
