Welcome to the Daventry RFC Mini, Midi & Junior web Site. We hope you enjoy our web and it answers all your questions about Junior Rugby. The site will be regularly updated and if you have any comments about it or its contents please contact us by email. We have built this part of the website with Dial up connections specifically in mind.

As one of the leading clubs in the East Midlands region, we aim to continue our success from last season both in results and more importantly by ensuring that players of all ages and abilities enjoy themselves and have a positive and safe experience every weekend.

Here at Daventry we are constantly striving to improve and to be the best-organised and professional club in the area. All of our coaches and staff are fully trained and conversant with not only the rules and skills of the game, but also in the protection and welfare of the children.

We adhere to the Rugby Football Union Policy and Procedures for Young people in Rugby Union and apply the Rugby Continuum to ensure the safety of our players and we train your child to enjoy rugby for the game and insist on high levels of respect for officials, coaches and other players.

All age groups from under 7's to under 17's are welcome, both boys and girls. It doesn't matter if you haven't played rugby before as at Daventry we will ensure you have fun to begin or continue playing rugby.

We take boys and girls from 6 years old and teach them rugby in a safe and friendly environment. Girls and boys play mixed rugby up until the age of 12.

Players over 13 but under 17 play the full fifteen aside game, but are still covered by the Rugby Football Union Policy and Procedures for Young people in Rugby Union

The new season commences on the 2nd September 2007 and ends with our annual dinner in May 2008. We undertake training for the first four weeks and then have a mixture of training and Home and Away matches.

The RFU Continuum

The Club adheres to the Rugby Football Unions Rugby Continuum. The purpose of which is viewed as a coaching pathway through which each youngster acquires, by general degrees, those skills required to participate in the full 15 aside game by the age of under 13. The emphasis must be geared towards the improvement of individual skills through purposeful and enjoyable activity. In order to allow for the testing of these skills in match situations, a limited number of competitive fixtures and festivals/tournaments maybe introduced.

Children matches are controlled in three stages to ensure your child's safety as follows:

  1. Mini teams play Tag Rugby

  2. Midi teams play Mini contact rugby but have uncontested scrums and line-outs

  3. Junior Teams play Mini contact rugby with contested scrums and line-outs

Children are age ranged by the Rugby Continuum as follows:

  1. Mini Under 7 & Under 8

  2. Midi Under 9 to Under 10

  3. Junior Under 11 to Under 17

We adhere to the Rugby Football Union Policy and Procedures for Young people in Rugby Union and apply the Rugby Continuum to ensure the safety of our players (for more information on our Child Protection Policies and Equity Statement see our Child Welfare Page)

We train your child to enjoy rugby for the game and insist on high levels of respect for officials, coaches and other players see our codes of conducts for players, coaches and match officials

As the players develop we play matches against other local teams with in the same age groups. After every match the players get a free hot dog.

Whilst in our care your child's welfare is  paramount and to that end all Coaches,  Officials and Staff have undergone suitable training and have checks undertaken by the Criminal Records Bureau.

Daventry RFC is a family orientated club with not only rugby on a Sunday but also a number of Social events throughout the year, finishing with “Lads V Dads” a fun-day as well as an end of season dinner with awards for all players.
